Memed from lost_spook:
Give me a character/pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universes for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky.
- Wild West
- Coffee Shop
- Fantasy/Fairy Tale
- . . . In SPACE!!
- Police/Firefighters/Medical/any other emergency service I can think of
Retreads from the previous iteration are deprecated. So absent a really compelling pairing, let's omit Eight, Lucie, Four, Romana, Ben, Polly, Jamie, Sam, Seven, Ace, Six, Peri, Charles Prentiss and Martin McCabe.
Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom/pairing/moresome and I’ll tell you something about the story I’d write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write). ( List below the cut )
( Actually, I had the cookie first. Doing this meme the way I do it, I need all the blood sugar I can get... )
- Pick five fandoms. List them in alphabetical order.
- Visit this site to find your first RANDOM POEM OF POWER. Write down the 5th line (yes, even if it's an E.E. Cummings poem and you wind up with an apostrophe). Repeat five times and — you guessed it — list 'em in alphabetical order! (No cheating, mind! This is a challenge and it's always been about creativity.)
- I think you can see where this is going. Write a very quick 50-word half-drabble for each fandom (try to do it all in one sitting - make your brain explode!), using the line from the poem as a prompt. You don't have to include it in the half-drabble - it's just inspiration.
- Bravo! Have a cookie.
In other news: I recently discovered that a romance novel author asked P. G. Wodehouse if they could use the name Rosie M. Banks. He said yes. I'm tempted to add the summary to the Generator, perhaps with an explanatory note.
I've done a minor update to the Unconventional Courtship generator, to allow you to select fandoms individually. There's now a tickbox beside each fandom — if you click on the fandom name it will select only that fandom, as before, but if you click on the tickboxes you can toggle which fandoms are included. So if (for example) you just want the characters from B5 and B7 with no intervention from Miss Austen, that should now be possible.
Let me know if you find any problems — it's quite possible I've introduced some heinous error. The encoding method I've used also means the generator will be limited to 31 fandoms maximum, though we're nowhere near that limit yet. ( Of course, I couldn't resist testing it... )
Photobucket appear to be shutting down hotlinking (unless you pay a three-figure annual fee).
At the time of writing, this doesn't seem to have affected images of mine hosted on PB (mainly Unconventional Courtship banners), but for those with images on PB it may be as well to start looking for alternative hosting.
Pick any story I've written, or, in the case of my longer, chaptered works, any chapter from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
(You can find ones I've done previously under the commentary tag).
