[livejournal.com profile] liadtbunny prompted "Benton / Miss Hawthorne" (I took this to mean for a crack-pairing drabble, rather than a serious multi-thousand word shipping manifesto).
Old Wives' Tales )

That's the end of my prompts, but I have plenty of slots left on the original posts if anyone wants to ask for anything else.

[personal profile] lost_spook suggested I write something about my favourite books. I've tried to restrict it to one book per author, though with a couple of them I've had to include honourable mentions. I've listed the books in the approximate order that I first encountered them.

Here goes )

Pick a date below and give me a topic, and I'll ramble on. I'm good at talking. It can be anything from fandom-related (specific characters, actors, storylines, episodes, etc.) to life-related to pizza preferences to whatever you want.

They will probably be brief, or not, depending on the subject. Also, I reserve the right to decline prompts that I don't feel equipped to meet.

If none of that appeals, you could always throw a crack pairing at me and see if I can come up with a drabble for it. Dates )

14th-Dec-2013 10:43 pm - Meme post: Concerning This Time Round
john_amend_all: (crichtardis)

(Administrative note: I've added the 'promptme' tag to the original meme prompts post, so it can be easily found just in case anyone wants me to ramble on about anything else.)

[personal profile] lost_spook also asked me to explain This Time Round, and Storytime in particular. I'll try, at least.

It's a question probably as old as storytelling itself: Do characters have an existence outside the narrative that gave them birth? Where do they go, and what do they do? The question's been addressed many times over the years; Doctor Who itself had a go in The Mind Robber.

Nineties fandom came up with their own answer: )

11th-Dec-2013 11:02 pm - Meme post: Concerning Zoë
john_amend_all: (evil)

[personal profile] lost_spook suggested I write something about Zoë and why she's my favourite (assuming she is).

I think it's a fairly safe assumption that she is my favourite — after all, that's what I told Wendy Padbury when I got her autograph, and I wouldn't have dared lie to her. The 'why' I find something of a mystery. I'd always liked the idea of the character since first encountering her in the novelisation of The Krotons. Around six years ago I experimented with putting her in a fanfic, and suddenly found I had a full-blown case of Zoë On The Brain — not only was I imagining what she'd do in various situations, but I cared about what happened to her, which was somewhat unnerving.

So, what's to like about Zoë? )

Memed from [personal profile] lost_spook, [personal profile] liadtbunny and [livejournal.com profile] scifi_mel:

Give me a topic, and at some point in the next few weeks I'll ramble about it. It can be anything from fandom-related (TV shows, books, computer games) to life-related (aspirations, identity, political beliefs) to pizza preferences* to whatever you want.

My rambles may be brief, or not, depending on the subject.

Also, I reserve the right to decline prompts that I don't feel equipped to meet. Topics: you can get an idea from my tags/my stories/the stuff I usually babble about/from things you maybe wish I talked about more but don't.

(This reminds me vaguely of the premise of Just a Minute. Don't expect a lack of hesitation, deviation or repetition, though).
