Single father John Benton has lived in Willow Creek for twelve years with a wall around his heart. On the verge of being an empty nester, he's decided to move on from his quaint little town, and asks his friend Leela for her help with some home-improvement projects to get his house ready to sell.
Leela is known for being the life of every party, but mostly for the attire she wears to the local Renaissance Faire — a kilt (and not much else) that shows off her shapely form to perfection. While she agrees to help John, she needs a favor too: he'll pretend to be her boyfriend at an upcoming family dinner so that she can avoid the lectures about settling down and having a more 'serious' career than high school coach and gym teacher. John reluctantly agrees, but then dinner turns into a weekend trip, and it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's been just for show. But when the weekend ends, so must their fake relationship.
As summer begins, the Faire returns to Willow Creek, and John volunteers for the first time. When Leela's family shows up unexpectedly, John pretends to be Leela's boyfriend again… and it doesn't feel so fake anymore.
Despite their obvious connection, John insists they've just been putting on an act. But now there's the chance for something real and he has to decide whether to change his plans — and open his heart — for the kilt-wearing stunner who might just be the love of his life.
