I think this was one of, if not the first fic I posted to dw100. Nice to know it still appeals to someone (well, three someones).

Perhaps the Neverwhere fandom put this ahead of the three other drabbles dated 2008? They were all crossovers, in their own way, but Nebulous and Hyperdrive presumably didn't have the same level of support.

Ah yes, I remember this one — and the forum game of Pairing vs Pairing from which it originated. I was on holiday in North Yorkshire when I was writing it, which seems to have helped my creativity. A testament to what random generators can do to for you.

Writing a canonical Austen pairing seems to do wonders for a fic's popularity, as I believe I've mentioned before.

The first fic I'd consider a runaway success — whether it was something to do with Unconventional Courtship, or the Ace / Oswin pairing catching readers' imagination, I don't know, but I definitely saw the effect.

The other runaway success — Unconventional Courtship and a canonical Austen pairing.

The Problem of Darley Place (Sherlock Holmes / Miss Marple, 2843 words)

I think the combination of fandoms is what puts this one where it is.

Crossing over with Girl Genius appears to attract quite a bit of attention.

And it's Ace Rimmer to the rescue this year. But when the only opposition was a Lucie / Karen fic (a 'mindlessly obscure' ship, as aralias put it), I don't think he had much of a fight on his hands.
