[personal profile] pedanther asked about Doctor Who.
The first character I fell in love with:

The Daleks. I think they're a big part of the reason that the show's kept going all this time.

The character who is my 'baby':

Zoë probably fits best under here. Every time the expanded universe makes things worse for her, I end up writing multi-thousand-word fixit series to cheer myself up.

The character who I do not understand:

The Hath. All they do is blow bubbles. <rimshot>

The character that I think the show ruined:

Rose. I remember rewatching 'Rose' at one point, after I'd become accustomed to the way she was written towards the end of her tenure, and being surprised how likeable she'd been at the beginning. Pity it didn't last.

The most attractive male and female character:

Steven for the male. With the females, Peri's probably the most physically attractive, but once you factor personality in, Polly or Jo would be the winner.

The character death that was the worst for me:

Oddly, I can remember reading the novelisation of The Daleks' Master Plan and feeling sorry, not particularly for Sara or Katarina, but for the red Dalek that the Egyptians trapped under a load of rocks (it's rather better thought-out than the corresponding scene in the TV episode).

OTOH, I've never written a fixit for that, whereas I have for the likes of Lynda and Lucie.

The character that is the most like me:

Probably Clive from 'Rose' — the obsessive fan who'd be the first to die when the alien invasion came. (I do, in fairness, share a couple of characteristics with Zoë: the maths degree, the affinity with computers, and [I fear, in my darker moments] the wasted life).

The character I think the writer(s) love:

Given how many writers there have been over the years, I'm sure there have been no end of these. With Saward (as I understand it) it was mercenaries, with RTD there's Rose, and for the Moff I'll settle on River.

The character that I just want to be happy:

[Expanded Universe] Zoë. And no doubt, now I've said that, some Big Finish writer will take care to give her an utterly miserable death to match her utterly miserable life. But at least, there is symmetry.

My four favorite characters, past or present:

Two, Seven, Zoë, and Delgado's Master.

My four least favorite characters, past or present:

Simm's Master and Dalton's Rassilon: Both cases in which existing characters were forced into the straitjacket of being an RTD Idiotic Finale VillainTM.

The Dalek Sec mutant in Evolution of the Daleks — a lot of what makes Daleks great is the ring-modulated voice. Without it Sec loses all his authority and menace and is just a man in a silly costume.

For the last, pick any from Love & Monsters, the only episode that's made me say 'I don't care what happens to these people!'

(Interesting that they're all RTD creations. It's not to say that the Moff's writing never annoys me, but with him it's been the plot perforations, rather than the characters, that have got on my wick).

[livejournal.com profile] liadtbunny asked about Blackadder.

The first character I fell in love with:

RICHARD IV. "Slit their gizzards, hahahaha!"

The character who is my 'baby':

Prince Albert in 'Christmas Carol'.

The character who I do not understand:

I think I'm going to have to fall back on literalism again. I don't speak Spanish, so I have to rely on Blackadder's translation of the inquisitor's threats in 'Chains'.

The character that I think the show ruined:

I think 'ruined' is far too strong a word here, but the closest I can come to answering this question is feeling that they overdid the gross-out gags with Baldrick in series 4.

The most attractive male and female character:

In-universe, Flashheart is the obvious male winner, but he doesn't do much for me. So let's go with Philip of Burgundy (Wikipedia points out that there really was a Philip of Burgundy at that time, who had the epithet 'the handsome'). For females, it's the series 4 version of Bob.

The character death that was the worst for me:

I'm sure the expectation here is the finale of 'Goes Forth', but no; the only time I've had what da youf of today call 'feels' from a death in Blackadder was one time I rewatched the series 2 finale, 'Chains'.

The character that is the most like me:

I'm not sure there is one.

The character I think the writer(s) love:

I think the writers look on all characters in Blackadder with an equally jaundiced eye.

The character that I just want to be happy:

Since I don't think it's in Blackadder's nature to be happy (unless, perchance, he's doing something evil), let's say Lord Whiteadder.

My four favorite characters, past or present:

Blackadder, Wellington, RICHARD IV and (Elizabethan) Flashheart.

My four least favorite characters, past or present.

Tricky. The closest I can come is probably Mrs Scratchit and the overweight orphans in Christmas Carol; I'm perfectly aware that they've been deliberately written as horrible people who abuse Ebenezer Blackadder's kindly nature, but that doesn't stop them being horrible people.
