The other week, [personal profile] romanajo123 left a comment on Aedos which plotbunnied me:

Walking Work Of Code (353 words) by JohnAmendAll
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot
Additional Tags: Ficlet
Summary: Zoë's determined to make the most of her holographic clothing.

john_amend_all: (wiztardis)

I seem to have done my usual trick of posting lines from umpteen WIPs, and then writing something that isn't any of them. When [livejournal.com profile] public_call opened their prompts to everyone, I spotted a prompt for Polly rescuing Ben and couldn't resist writing it.

Polly to the Rescue (2932 words) by JohnAmendAll
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Polly Wright, Ben Jackson (Doctor Who), Second Doctor
Summary:

Polly investigates a factory, and makes some interesting discoveries.

(Also available at Teaspoon)

On a different topic: a few memes back one of the characters I picked was Loveday Brooke, Lady Detective (I always think that title deserves an exclamation mark at the end). The other day I discovered by chance that one of her adventures was dramatised for the radio, and is available on iPlayer for the next few weeks: The Redhill Sisterhood.

In some respects, I found the adaptation improved on the original story. In the original, Loveday describes various clues she spotted, but since the narration never so much as mentions them, the reader has to take her word for it. The radio version does make more of an effort to plant them.

  1. More 500-prompts fic. This time it's from [livejournal.com profile] liadtbunny's prompt: "277. Catastrophe in the making - Second, Jamie":

    Headers below the cut )

  2. A few days ago I made a rash remark about filking The Living Daylights as a celebration of Jo Grant — Assassin for hire!

Turns out it's not an easy song to filk, because A-Ha seemed to have a somewhat cavalier attitude to rhyme, scansion, and singing the words that all the transcripts say they should be singing. But if anyone is morbidly curious, it's under the cut )

  3. These banners are definitely addictive. Unconventional Courtship Banner )

Having received prompts for the following pairings — here they are. As luck would have it, all but one were hand-picked rather than randomly generated pairs.

4. Samantha / Jamie — dusting small breakable things. Suggested by [personal profile] primsong.

Misdirection (175 words) )

6. Rose / Tegan — balancing somebody's chequebook. Suggested by [personal profile] justice_turtle (This was the randomly-generated one).

Two Broke Girls (498 words) )

8. Fitzwilliam Darcy / Elizabeth Bennet — walking the dog. Suggested by [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook.

Noblesse Oblige (147 words) )

9. Clyde / Rani — getting fingerprints off the walls - suggested by [personal profile] primsong.

Always me (228 words) )

10. Lord Dark senior / Miss Hawk — waxing wooden floors. Suggested by [personal profile] primsong; since number 6 was taken, she gave me free choice which pair to use.

Wordsearch (318 words) )

15. Dr Gemma Corwyn / Second Doctor — doing the ironing. Suggested by [livejournal.com profile] jjpor.

Sorting Things Out (445 words) )

Title: The Art of Negotiation
Author: [personal profile] john_amend_all
Characters: Second Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Liz Shaw, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoë Heriot
Rating: All ages
Prompt: From [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook: The Brigadier in other eras, or other eras with the Brigadier.
Word count: ~1400
Disclaimer: "Doctor Who" characters belong to the BBC.
Author's notes: Yes, it's another alternate Season 7. I think, as well as the prompt, there's at least some lingering influence from the fic-substitution meme, where [livejournal.com profile] derekmetaltron suggested putting Jamie in Season 7.
Summary: The Earth has been saved from the Nestenes. But UNIT's scientific advisors really aren't getting on with each other.

Title: Then Do That Over: Life is Like...
Author: [livejournal.com profile] john_elliott
Characters: Second Doctor, Jamie
Rating: All ages
Word count: ~640
Disclaimer: "Doctor Who" characters belong to the BBC.
