This recipe isn't from Mrs Beeton: it comes from my late grandmother. I've made them this and last year, and they were delicious both times.

Christmas Sweets

Ingredients

  • 1 pkt sweet cases
  • 2oz plain chocolate
  • 3oz milk chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons double cream
  • ½ oz butter (unsalted preferred, salted will do)
  • Teaspoon (or more!) rum, brandy or other liqueur.
  • Chocolate strands.

Method

Prepare three thicknesses of cases (Quantities given make about 14 sweets). [Or, in this day and age, you could use a silicone mould; Lakeland sell numerous examples].

Melt plain chocolate over hot (but not boiling) water. When melted, put ½ tsp plain chocolate in each case, and coat base and sides of case. Put filled cases in fridge to set.

Once cases have set, melt milk chocolate as above. When melted, add cream, butter and liqueur, and mix well. Fill each case with mixture, and sprinkle strands on top.

Put sweets back in fridge to set. When completely cold, remove paper cases.

On a different subject: odd dream last night, and all the odder because I've never watched Blake's 7, so my knowledge of it only comes from osmosis from my flist. So why I was dreaming about what might have happened immediately after the finale, I have no idea. Though the arrival of Mr Morden from Babylon 5 (offering to do for Servalan what he'd done for President Clark in his own series) doesn't sound completely out of place...
