Jan. 10th, 2016 11:37 pmNot the Doctor Who episode, but the Escher lithograph that inspired it — one of many in this exhibition. The exhibition's been so popular that the gallery's had to extend its opening times.
It was very interesting to see the development of his style, and appreciate the amount of fine detail his art contains. The behind-the-scenes bits were also enlightening — there was a plate for his mezzotint 'Eye', for instance, with a line gouged across it to make sure it wasn't used to make any more of them. And a review of his work in (IIRC) Mad Magazine, where he's highlighted sections and put question marks against them, with implication being he was wondering what on earth these people were on about.
