I think the AO3 tags tends to work when it's a smaller tag, or a newer fic, otherwise, like the fandom itself, it soon gets buried. So there probably have been recs when there have been inexplicable bumps in comments/kudos etc.
THe internet should still tell us, though. Reccing in secret is not on!
