romanajo123 back in 2020: Clara Oswald / Fifth Doctor- Cake fic

The double doors flew open, revealing the worried faces of Tegan and Nyssa.

"Oh," the latter said, looking at the lotus seed paste plastered across the room's walls, ceiling, furniture and occupants. "I see the Master got here first."

"At least you kept your clothes on this time," Tegan said, directing a pointed look at the Doctor.

"Thanks to Miss Oswald here," the Doctor explained, gesturing at the lady to whom he was chained. "She threw herself on the cake at the crucial moment."

Miss Oswald tried, with no great success, to reduce the sticky remains of her dress to order. "Run, you clever boy..." she murmured in a faintly stunned voice, reordered her thoughts, and began again. "I thought it was a bomb. I believed I was saving your life from your most fiendish archenemy."

Nyssa nodded. "Perfectly understandable, in the circumstances." She hurried across to the Doctor and set about releasing him from the manacles. "We have to hurry, Doctor. The next pulsar burst can't be more than fifteen minutes from now."

"Quite." The Doctor sprang to his feet. "Miss Oswald, I'm afraid we have to leave at once. Thank you once again for all your help."

"And your willingness to sacrifice your life for the Doctor," Nyssa added.

Miss Oswald clambered awkwardly to her feet. "It might have been simpler if the situation had ended fatally for me," she said. "It will be most unseemly for the young ladies to see their preceptress in... this condition. Still, what cannot be cured must be endured. I shall have Hookwood show you out by the pavilion entrance."

Tegan glanced at Miss Oswald's receding figure as she squelched away. "So that's why they call it moon cake," she said, more or less to herself.
