I've answered these questions for the four pairings I've written multiple fics for: three from Doctor Who (Jamie / Sam, Zoë / Isobel and Ace / Shou Yuing) and one from Miss Marple (Inspector Neele / Mary Dove).
clocketpatch asked:
- What gag gifts do they put in each others' stockings (if any)?
- Jamie / Sam:
- Jamie attempts to to spice up Sam's Christmas morning with as many reasonably harmless practical jokes as he can find.
- Zoë / Isobel:
- They try to outdo each other with unspeakably tasteless clothes.
- Ace / Shou Yuing:
- Unlabelled bottles of liquid. The recipient has to work out whether it's something to drink, something to wash with, or something that goes bang.
- Neele / Dove:
- The Inspector wakes up to find a Clue beside his bed — the start of a trail laid by the ingenious Miss Dove to where she's waiting to meet him.
- Who is more likely to give/receive a backrub?
- Jamie / Sam:
- Given that Jamie's got no sense of personal space, and the difficulty Sam has keeping her hands off him, I think it entirely depends on who happens to be facing away from whom.
- Zoë / Isobel:
- I think Isobel is likely to be the more tactile of the two, so she's probably the giver.
- Ace / Shou Yuing:
- I can't see either of them as the type for a backrub, to be honest.
- Neele / Dove:
- Of the two, I think the Inspector's more likely to hand out a backrub. It'd probably discombobulate Mary terribly if she wasn't expecting it.

- Who is the big spoon/little spoon?
- Jamie / Sam:
- Big: Jamie; Little: Sam
- Zoë / Isobel:
- Big: Isobel; Little: Zoë
- Ace / Shou Yuing:
- Both: Both.
- Neele / Dove:
- If they ever get that far, I think the Inspector would insist on being the big one. Mary would doubtless assent with one of her enigmatic smiles.
- Who does the groceries and what do they buy?
- Jamie / Sam:
- Sam, because she doesn't trust Jamie to follow a shopping list. And having grown up in the 1950s, she'll probably have a traditionalist approach to cooking: meat and potatoes, and cauliflower boiled until it gives in, and none of that foreign muck.
- Zoë / Isobel:
- I suspect that Zoë tries to maintain a regular supply of the staple items like flour and butter, while Isobel buys anything that looks vaguely interesting, whether or not there's any need for it; leading to rather odd meals.
- Ace / Shou Yuing:
- We're talking chaotic student lifestyle here: whoever's feeling hungry pops round to the corner shop and buys whatever's cheap and simple to cook.
- Neele / Dove:
- Mary insists on having complete management of the household, and makes sure she's getting only the best cuts of butcher's meat and top-quality vegetables. How this can be afforded on what she and the Inspector earn is best not asked.
- How did they meet?
- Jamie / Sam:
- They met in The Faceless Ones. As for how they became a couple, I'm going for the explanation I used in my fic: Sam decided she wasn't going to let Jamie get away from her, and insisted on joining him and the Doctor on their adventures.
- Zoë / Isobel:
- They met in The Invasion. Again, for their being a couple I'm resorting to fanon: Zoë bumped into a Weeping Angel and got teleported directly to Isobel's bedroom.
- Ace / Shou Yuing:
- Having met in Battlefield they had a brief, blazing affair while Ancelyn and the Brigadier were sorting out the aftermath of the episode.
- Neele / Dove:
- He was a detective investigating a murder. She was a classy jewel thief who'd never stoop to anything like that, but it was terribly flattering to have all that attention from a handsome police inspector. And of course, there was nothing to worry about, was there? He'd never cotton on to the truth...
