Day 7
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I think, on consideration, the presence of a trope isn't as important as what use is made of it, and with what characters. For instance, I've seen a number of other posters who are fond of fake relationships (progressing, one presumes, inevitably to a real relationship). Fair enough, a Jamie/Sam fic with that outline might be fun to read. But I'd prefer a fic with that pairing and not using the trope, to a Ten/Rose fake relationship fic.
That said, I think that Cake!fic counts as a motif or theme, if not an actual trope or
cliché (Best not to wonder to what extent it's a kink). Some fine examples of
the genre are Mishaps in Butter Icing by thisbluespirit and Just Fruity by
primsong.
Returning to more general tropes, It's also nice to see a fic which subverts the usual template. For example, Pollination by Lissy Strata is a very funny twist on Sex Pollen.

Date: 2015-01-08 12:54 pm (UTC)ETA: I think it might still be possible to have tropes one always dislikes, without having tropes one always likes. I can imagine someone disliking the 'AU: coffee shop' trope, for example, to the point where they wouldn't read it even if the story had their favourite pairing in it.
