Happy New Year, flist!

Memed once again from [personal profile] aralias — here's the Fanfic Year In Review meme, with a link to the template.

Stats:

List of Completed Fics:

[Takes a deep breath...]

Total number:
64
Total word count:
I make it 140633.
Ship/character breakdown:

It seems, looking through the list, that Ben / Polly is the winning ship this year. Frequent characters are Lucie, Clara, Jamie, Victoria and Georgina Jones. Zoë probably wins by word count.

(I'm not going to do a full breakdown, or we'd be here all night)

Specifics:

Best/worst title?

I rather liked 'Permute and Combine', for the way it echoes the title of the fic it's based on ('Subdivide and Multiply') while being an accurate description of what the Doctor and his companions are doing.

Worst? Well, a lot of them are pretty forgettable, but I think 'Rural Retreat' is one of the weakest.

Best/worst summary?

Klepsmnemon, being a long story, has a suitably long and detailed summary. Most of the others, I fear, might as well read 'i sukk at summerys lol'.

Best/worst first line?

I like the opening of Lost Soul: "Georgina Jones was at a loose end, which was never a good place for her to be."

Looking back over the other first lines, none of them seems particularly egregious.

Best/worst last line?

I'm rather fond of the last line of Serious Business, and of The Fun Of The Fair. Again, none of the other last lines really jumps out at me as atrocious.

General questions:

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

More — that many fics is a personal record. I think the overall word count is, too. I do worry that in writing so much, some of my output may have become slapdash.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

Adam Adamant Lives!, any and all pairings therein.

What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

Klepsmnemon.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

In Your Dreams — it's got Ten and Rose in bed together without their clothes on. 'Nuff said.

Story most underappreciated by the universe?

The only one that received neither comment on LJ nor kudos on AO3 is Family Christmas, but then Companion Chronicles☛Zoë is something of a niche market.

The only other fic with no kudos on AO3 is Conflict Resolution — no love for Karen Coltraine?

Story that could have been better?

On the most mundane level, when I originally uploaded Turned it was full of typoes. I'm sure several of the others would have been improved by setting aside and revising them later.

Sexiest story?

Readers seemed to like Amy snogging her timeshifted self in Double the Trouble.

Saddest story?

I don't think I really tried for 'sad' much this year. Historical Wrack (The Help and Comfort Remix) probably comes closest.

Most fun?

A lot of readers (by my standards, anyway) seemed to enjoy River's and Amy's antics in Love a Tomb.

Story with single sweetest moment?

Victoria flirting with Jamie in The Fun Of The Fair.

Hardest story to write?

Klepsmnemon, being a mystery, had a lot of who-knew-what-when to juggle. Several others took me more time than I'd have thought the final word count merited.

Easiest/most fun story to write?

Several of the shorts, but A Glimpse of the Future sticks in my mind as straightforward.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

Not really. I had to construct a lesbian Louise with sadistic tendencies in Lost Soul, for example, but that doesn't mean I now think of the canon version that way.

Most overdue story?

I wrote my first attempt at what became Klepsmnemon in 2009, so probably that. On the other hand, the finished work wasn't at all late for the [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang deadline.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang, leaving me with a requirement to write the bulk of what came out as a 37000-word fic. That part was all right, but I did learn that AO3 had a bug (hopefully since fixed) where my fic wasn't revealed even when the mod had told it to.

What are your fic writing goals for next year?

I don't imagine I'll be writing anything like the quantity I produced in 2015. There are some long-dormant longfics I'd like to get going again, though.

How did you do on last year's goals?

I finished one long-delayed WIP (to whit, Klepsmnemon). Still many more to go.
