- Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
- I'm not sure how many stories I was expecting to write, but the number of words was something of a surprise.
- Where did you publish/archive your stories?
- The Whoniverse ones on Teaspoon (usually linked either from my LJ or an appropriate community). The TTR ones were posted on alt.drwho.creative and auto-archived at TTRArchive.
- What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?
- Losing Face (Michelle/Jamie) came as something of a shock to me. Not half as much as it did to Jamie, though :-o . Cake!fic, of course, since I'd never heard of it. And the Children of Earth ficlet — I mean, I haven't even watched Children of Earth.
- What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
- Things That Happened On Midsummer Night is the one I'd choose first to reread. Half-a-dozen Sixties companions alternately bickering and causing massive property damage.
- Okay, NOW your most popular story.
- The one that got the most reviews on Teaspoon was, of all things,
Afternoon Off. DbyA must be full of Jamie/Peri shippers,
or something. On the other hand, Extra-Curricular Activity
seems to be the critics' favourite: it got recommended on
calufrax and nominated for a Children of Time award. Which it didn't win :-(
- Story most underappreciated by the universe?
- I wish more of the Universe appreciated This Time Round, because it's such a fun place to play. But hey, if I wanted mass appeal, I'd be writing Ten/Rose reunion fic.
- Story that could have been better?
- I usually find at least one improvement that I could have made when I reread something I've written. In general, though, once a fic's written it fossilizes for me, and I don't feel inclined to make major changes.
- Sexiest story?
- I think it's got to be Afternoon Off, in which there's an actual kiss that manages not to be too disturbing. Unlike, say, the kissing in Uninhibited or Losing Face.
- Most fun story?
- Things That Happened..., as I mentioned above. But they were nearly all fun to write, or I wouldn't have written them.
- Story with single sweetest moment?
- It's got to be Afternoon Off again, hasn't it?
- The story that made you cry?
- None of them.
- Hardest story to write?
- Relaxation and Recreation is, by weight, something like one-quarter of everything I've written this year and the longest fic I've ever written. And it had to have something that approximated to a proper murder-mystery plot. At the other end of the scale, Plumbing's Very Important was a fiddly technical challenge — 100 words, with rhyme, scansion and narrative.
- Easiest story to write?
- Thy Ravish'd Hair. I'd keep coming up with more and more ridiculous things to do to poor Rose.
- Most overdue story?
- I shamefully neglected Relaxation and Recreation for most of the year, so it's the most overdue of the ones I've finished.
- Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
- Trying to write longer stories with plots and characters I've designed, rather than obtaining characters by pillaging canon and plots by filleting classic literature. And trying to write the occasional bit of shippy fic, rather than just gen.
- Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
- Dear Santa, I'd like my fanfic to be treated as canon by every last fan in preference to the televised series. Especially the bits that contradict each other.
- More
realisticspecific goals: - Write that TTR murder mystery evening I keep going on about.
- Do a proper story with a Shalka-9, Master, Lucie, Victoria team.
- Revisit the Genius and Geniality setting.
- Write another cake!fic.
