SJA: "The Eternity Trap"
Nov. 7th, 2009 10:52 pmWell, that was a whole load of fun. Spoilers for both parts under the cut.
Things I liked:
- The way Clyde and Rani perk up the moment aliens are mentioned.
- In fact, Clyde generally. Including his very sensibly carrying a torch everywhere.
- And both of them being prepared to face down who knows what extradimensional horror with a couple of oars.
- A more optimistic presentation of the Whoniverse afterlife than that which Torchwood deigns to bestow upon it.
- Erasmus Darkening. It's a good job there was all that granite around because he would have left toothmarks on any scenery less solid than rock. The fact that he reminded me of Lord Fear from Knightmare was just icing on the cake.
- Sarah Jane besting Darkening in verbal combat every time they met.
Not so sure about:
- Sarah Jane as the arch-skeptic. It may well be that there are no ghosts, as such, in the Whoniverse, but with all she's seen there shouldn't be any need to continually write phenomena off as draughts or coincidences. Though there may be no ghosts, when an alien can walk like a ghost and quack like a ghost, why be so eager to deny that anything at all is happening? Particularly if The Ghosts of N-Space is canon, of course :-)
- Clyde and Rani only thinking to arm themselves when in the pavilion — even when, in the billiards room, they get presented with a tempting choice of snooker cues.
Oh, and did shutting the dimensional thingy down get rid of the red-eyed monster that we never got a look at? Or is it still roaming the grounds?
