Vicki?

I'm shockingly late answering, but here goes.
I think questions 1 and 3-5 can stand unchanged from my answers in 2011.

2. Sadly, I fear since 2011 RTD has sent my Vicki/Luke ship to Davy Jones. On the other hand, I've got a nasty feeling about what might have happened if it had been the Tenth Doctor rather the First who found her on Dido. Actually, I sort of want to write that now. Or put them in a Mills and Boon summary.

   Her one bright memory in a lifetime of shadows… [The Tenth Doctor] might be her [guardian]’s most hated business rival, but he’s the only man who has ever made [Vicki Pallister] feel beautiful. So, needing to make a new life for herself, [Vicki] apprehensively turns to [Ten] for help. Except the dark-hearted tycoon is nothing like the white knight she remembers! Seduced, bedded and betrayed in a matter of days, [Vicki] realises it’s not always better the devil you know… She’s sold her soul – and her heart – to the enemy!

6. It says something about fandom and the places it can take an idea, that I find myself needing to come up with the fanon that Bennett didn't behave in an overtly abusive manner to Vicki when they were alone together on Dido. He needed her to confirm his version of events when they were rescued; that meant keeping her alive and convincing her he was a good guy.
7. I'm not sure the three options (love / hate / no strong feelings) adequately cover the gamut of human emotion. I'm fond of Vicki and I certainly wouldn't have wanted to see her, for example, go out of the airlock in Katarina's place.
8. She travels with the Doctor and doesn't end up broken. It's a distressingly rare trait among companions, particularly when you take spinoffs into account.
9. Taking the question, I think, a little more literally than was intended: my favourite event in which Vicki was involved has to be the reveal of the Monk's TARDIS in The Time Meddler.
10. Vicki has powers? I suppose I could do with her ability to befriend people.
11. No!
12. Such feelings as I have about Vicki developed when I wrote fic with her; that seems to be how it works, for me.
13. That's an interesting question. I haven't experienced The Myth Makers in any form, so while I would certainly treat Vicki/Troilus as canon, I haven't got any strong feelings about it. But really, she seems on the young side for a pairing that's One and True.

Polly?

Sorry I'm so late answering this...

1. I like the idea of Polly, and she's been great in the episodes I've seen. It's just a pity so many of her episodes are lost.
2. Polly/Ben is pretty much canon, these days. I've also made the occasional nod toward Polly/Jamie. And by "nod", I mean writing fic where her dress hits the floor and fade to black.
3. Kirsty from The Highlanders.
4. Writing Polly/Jamie seems to have horrified a section of my readership :-)
5. It's interesting to speculate how history would have been different if it had been Polly, rather than Sarah Jane, who'd showed up in School Reunion.
6. One of the people she knew in Sixties London was Ace's Aunt Rosemary (from the novelisation of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy).
7. Oh, definitely on the side of love.
8. I think just who she was; an attempt to move away from the surrogate-granddaughter type of companion to a slightly older, more independent style of character.
9. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU. THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING ALL OVER YOUR WORLD AND YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEM. It's an unsettling truth about humans and our limited ability to think of others as real people.
10. Her ability to cheer people up.
11. I don't think so; even with the dress-hits-floor moment previously mentioned, the fic ended before things got quite that far.
12. I only really got to know Polly when I happened to buy the DVD of The War Machines; before then, I didn't get the chance to form an opinion.
13. I'm going to get lynched if I don't say 'Ben', aren't I? :-)

I chose Peri, thus saving me from any difficulty about how to ship a robot dog.

1. I lusted after her in my teens; I think that's a contractual obligation for straight male Doctor Who fans of my age. These days... well, she's undoubtedly easy on the eye, but she's not one of my go-to companions when it comes to writing.
2. The suitors Peri attracts don't tend to the desirable. I've certainly written fic where Peri/Yrcanos is a necessary part of the premise, but I don't have any particular desire to go into further detail. That leaves Jamie, whom I'm happy to ship with just about every female companion in the show.
3. The Fifth Doctor.
4. I don't hate her? A lot of people seem to find her annoying.
5. Actual episode in America, perhaps — at whatever institution she was learning botany, so we got to see her relaxing among friends. But something like that would probably have had to be a US co-production; there's no way the Eighties' budget would have stretched to it.
6. The Valeyard's account of what happened to her isn't the correct one.

8. Is 'fanservice' a trait?
9. I don't think I have one.
10. I'm not sure I would, since her powers and attributes mainly seem to involve attracting the wrong sort of attention from the likes of Sharaz Jek.
11. Probably. I can certainly remember reading fic where she got her kit off, for one reason or another.
12. I formed my original impressions of Peri in my teens, as mentioned above.
13. Looking at my Peri fic on AO3, I think Peri/Jamie is the only pairing that wasn't randomly generated for a drabble. Then again, Peri isn't exactly over-represented in my fic in the first place.

Ta for your answers:) An american serial would have been a good idea and peri could have got the right kind of attention or worn something decent. I'd go for the decent (I've been rewatching the two Drs - that top!).
