5) If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

Not in general; character and fic go hand in hand, as a rule. So if, as I did recently, I set out to write a fic with Six and Peri and the Rani, that's who ends up in the finished product; I don't get Dalek Oswin or Lord Flashheart beating down the door demanding admittance.

There are a couple of exceptions I can think of, though. One was the prologue of Storytime: Macbeth, when I wanted Jamie on the beach with one or two other companions, and before I knew what had happened the entire cast of what became Jamie's Angels had shown up and were chatting away like old friends. The other one was Wendy Padbury's third Whoniverse character, Professor Lorraine Baynes, who wanted to be in a fic despite the fact that I've never listened to the CD she's in. In that case I resisted temptation, set the fic aside, and later rewrote it with a character I'd actually seen.
