7) Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?

Quite frequently; writing a character tends to make me think about what makes them tick and what they might be like. One example that sticks in my mind is Michelle, the shapeshifter duplicate of Polly from The Faceless Ones. I'd used her as a joke character in a couple of TTR stories, but it wasn't until I was writing her in Losing Face that I discovered how nasty she could be.

6) When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

I tend to write the female characters. This may well be a consequence of spending so much time in the world of Doctor Who — the Doctor is a tricky character to write, so it's easier to shift the point of view to his companions — who have a tendency to be female.

Or maybe it's as simple as preferring to visualise characters whom I'd find attractive.

5) If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

Not in general; character and fic go hand in hand, as a rule. So if, as I did recently, I set out to write a fic with Six and Peri and the Rani, that's who ends up in the finished product; I don't get Dalek Oswin or Lord Flashheart beating down the door demanding admittance.

4) Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?

I think the only answer I can give is "Zoë", and as for why, I might just as well point at my meme post of last December. Certainly when I started writing, she was constantly demanding attention and pointing out how suitable she'd be for this or that role.

These days, she doesn't monopolise my attention to the same extent, possibly because I've said a lot of what I wanted to say about her.
